Selection Criteria -

Ability to work as a team player

Situation

In my current role as a Customer Service Officer at ABC Pty Ltd, I work in a team consisting of 6 people. As part of this role I consult with my fellow team members on a daily basis to ensure all customer needs are met and our monthly sales figures are maximised.

Task

An example of my ability to work as a team player is my monthly contribution towards our team’s sales targets. Last month we had a team target of $25,000. During the month, a customer contacted me to enquire about purchasing income protection insurance. I specialise in life insurance, however, I have some basic knowledge of income protection insurance.

Action

Rather than keep this customer for myself and work towards improving my individual sales performance, I referred her to one of my fellow team members who has more specialised knowledge in income protection insurance. I explained to the customer that my colleague would be able to assist her more effectively.

Result

After speaking with this customer, my colleague sold her a policy worth over $3000. This contributed greatly towards our monthly team target. My colleague thanked me for referring the customer to her and made special mention of it at our weekly team meeting. My decision to refer this customer to my colleague demonstrates my ability to work as an effective team player as it shows my capacity to actively contribute towards achieving team goals.
